TextEdit.cc is a small, independent plain-text workspace for people who want a calm place to write, revise, and preview without fuss.

Our mission is simple: make everyday text editing easy, friendly, and dependable. We keep the experience lightweight so your notes, drafts, and quick ideas feel faster and less stressful.

Privacy is the point: TextEdit.cc does not upload your writing. Your text and appearance choices are saved only in your browser with localStorage, not on our web server.

How to Use the Editor

1. Write or paste text: use the Write panel on the left. The editor accepts plain text rather than hidden document formatting.
2. Check the live result: the panel on the right mirrors the exact characters, spaces, and line breaks that will be kept.
3. Adjust the view: choose background and font colors and select a typeface from the toolbar. These choices change the display, not the saved text.
4. Review document counts: the blue status bar reports characters, UTF-8 bytes, words, paragraphs, lines, and the current cursor position.
5. Download a copy: select Save .txt to create a UTF-8 plain-text file on your device. Nothing is uploaded during the download.
6. Start over: select Clear text to empty the editor. Save a copy first if the writing matters.

About Format Conversion

TextEdit.cc is intentionally a plain-text editor, not a PDF, DOCX, RTF, image, audio, or video converter. Pasting formatted material converts the editable content to the plain characters your browser provides, and Save .txt exports those characters as a .txt file. Because formatting and embedded media are not preserved, keep the original document when you may need them later.

Browser Storage and Backups

Your current draft and display choices are restored from localStorage in this browser. Local storage is convenient, but it is not a permanent backup: clearing site data, using private browsing, or moving to another browser or device can remove access to the draft. Download important work regularly.
